“Association of Serbian municipalities as of 13 December” (VESTIonline)

Association of Serbian Municipalities in Kosovo should become official following meeting between Prime Ministers of Kosovo and Serbia, Hashim Thaci and Ivica Dacic, respectively, on 13 December in Brussels, carried Pristina-based Tribuna.

Quoting unnamed European diplomats, paper writes that work of technical groups on disbanding parallel security forces and judiciary, and preparations on the creation of the Association of Serbian Municipalities will be the topic at the first meeting of prime ministers following the run-off for mayors on 1 December.

 Meeting between Thaci and Dacic is scheduled for 5 December in Brussels, while next one is set for 13 December, when official creation of the Association of Serbian Municipalities is supposed to be announced.

 Establishment of the new body would mean and the end of existence of the Serbia’s parallel structures in northern Kosovo, writes Tribuna. Realization of those two demands is the condition that EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Catherine Ashton recommend the date for the start of negotiations for Serbia’s EU membership at the Summit of leaders of the EU member states.

 Association of Serbian Municipalities could encompass ten municipalities with the Serbian majority in Kosovo (six in the south and four in northern Kosovo) while Northern Mitrovica is seen as the seat of the Association.
