In an interview for Publiku, British Ambassador to Kosovo, Ian Cliff, talked about the establishment of the tribunal that is expected to address alleged war crimes committed by the former Kosovo Liberation Army. Cliff said the proposal is not to establish a tribunal that will investigate the KLA, but rather to create a Special Court of Kosovo that will address alleged war crimes committed by individuals, based on the report of the Special Investigations Task Force.
Cliff said the court would operate in accordance with Kosovo’s laws and would have two seats, one in Kosovo and another one abroad.
“Kosovo needs to clean its image from Marty’s allegations. The establishment of a Special Court adopted by the Assembly of Kosovo will be a positive development for Kosovo’s international image and will prove that Kosovo has nothing to hide,” he said.
Cliff said the Special Court is the only way to address the SITF report which can enjoy international credibility especially among states that are not as close to Kosovo as Great Britain. “Another solution is for the United Nations Security Council to take over the matter,” Cliff added.
