Minister for Environment and Spatial Planning, Dardan Gashi, said that he finds it strange that different media are capable of making different interpretations of a very clear statement.

“The further fate of the uncompleted church in the yard of the University of Pristina will be decided by Law. All that I am insisting on is for this building to be treated equally with all the other buildings that do not have a defined judicial status,” said Gashi.

He is convinced that implementation of law does not endanger anyone. “We are trying to find a solution for a wound which burdens the capital of Kosovo since mid-nineties when building of the Serb Orthodox Church started.”

Gashi recalls that for majority of Albanians this building was considered a provocation of Milosevic’s regime with a pure political background, while for majority of Serbs it could be considered as a religious one.

“In order to depoliticize this issue and to find an adequate solution, I have proposed to choose the legal way, based on the laws of the Republic of Kosovo. In this manner, the building would be treated through the Law which treats buildings without permission,” said Gashi. According to him, this procedure could clarify the status of the building without politicizing it and without the use of nationalist folklore.
