Former Swiss prosecutor at the Tribunal for war crimes in former Yugoslavia, in Hague, Carla del Ponte, was surprised with the decision to establish a special court for Kosovo. In an interview for Swiss Radio, SFR, she stated that “there is no need for another court to judge alleged war crimes in Kosovo,” reported Swiss newspaper Blick.

“I have to admit that I am surprised with this decision,” said Del Ponte. Asked by the journalist if she believed on the success of this court, Del Ponte said “I have some doubt about it.”

She said that there is a Tribunal which treats crimes committed in former Yugoslavia and that is the International UN Tribunal in Hague. All investigations on eventual crimes in Kosovo for which this court is being planned to establish, were completed by Tribunal in Hague and so far, nothing has come of it,” she said.
