Worse for Serbs in Kosovo (Vesti)

The Brussels agreement is “successful”, and in the part that mainly meets the interests of Kosovo. The fact is that the formation of the Union of Serbian municipalities is much delayed. On the other hand, Serbian institutions are abolished or are passive, which creates depressing effect on the Serbian people in Kosovo. The Serbian resistance movement leader Momcilo Trajkovic said to Vesti and adds that he does not see any part of the agreement in favour of the Serbs.

Maybe the benefit is that the Serbs eventually “understood” Belgrade’s policy and they no longer fear that the state will declare them as traitors if they participate in Kosovo’s institutions. Even the unsigned agreements are not in favour of the Serbs, which are overdue: the judiciary, paying exorbitant fees and car insurance at the administrative crossings – estimates Trajkovic a year ago signed agreement in Brussels between Belgrade and Pristina on the principles of normalization of relations.

Former mayor of Orahovac Marjan Saric recalls that during the signing of the Brussels Treaty there was a lot of talk on improving the position of the Serbs in Kosovo, and in this respect, troubleshooting telecommunications, energy, insurance, vehicle…

 – And one year from the signing of the agreement there is no improvement in solving problems of life of all citizens of Kosovo. What our people say, the paper suffers all. On paper everything looks good, but the situation on the ground is different. The Brussels agreement is only a success because of the pressure from Brussels on Serbia to get a date for starting negotiations on the EU accession, and general positive assessment can be that Serbia gained something in regards to international reputation – says Saric for Vesti.

When asked about what agreements most were in favour of the Serbs, he said that one should have in mind that the first point of the Brussels Treaty is establishment of the Community of Serbian Municipalities (ZSO), which is not implemented.

– Honestly no agreement was in favour of Serbia, all agreements are very bad. It would be better if the Serbian side accepted the Ahtisaari plan at the outset and Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija would be given greater authority – says Saric. He recalls that the local elections were held by the Kosovo laws, and this is a step in the establishment of the ZSO, but assesses, “it seems that great Serbs turnout in the upcoming parliamentary elections does not correspond to the West and Pristina.”
