One of the most significant projects of Kosovo, power plant “Kosova e Re,” has been delayed once again. The bidders have requested more time to submit their offers however, due to Kosovo’s current political obscurity, the tender for the new power plant might have the same fate as the one for the Post Telecom of Kosovo, which failed after the blockade at the Assembly.

Despite the fact that Kosovo is very rich with coal, delays of the projects have a negative impact because the prolonged procedures make investors lose interest. The idea of the new power plant has been criticized by the civil society due to the pollution of the environment; however Kosovo has to attract investments because alternative production of energy cannot fulfill the needs. Another delay of this project is alarming because the European Commission has recommended shutting down “Kosova A” power plant by 2017. If Kosovo does not close the procedures for the construction of the new power plant within this year, and if the available capacities are not used for production, electricity bills will increase continuously, writes this daily in his front page.
