Naim Rashiti, political analyst with the Pristina-based Balkans Group for Policy Research, argues in an opinion piece that if the Kosovo Assembly fails to elect the assembly presidency, political parties should reach a quick agreement for a broad-based government. According to Rashiti, a broad-based government (PDK, LDK, AAK and NISMA) would not have good governance as its priority, but it would help the country emerge from the current deadlock and perhaps even reach consensus on several capital issues. “Hashim Thaci should withdraw from the post of Prime Minister and make way for someone who would be more acceptable to other parties, such as Enver Hoxhaj or Hajredin Kuci. As representative of the biggest party, Hoxhaj would shoulder the burden of dialogue together with the ministers of foreign affairs and European integration, while the LDK and AAK would contribute to a better governance. Parties would also have to appoint professional and less contradictory ministers. The AAK for example has several members that can lead the Ministry for Foreign Affairs … The LDK has new members that can lead the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry for Integration and the Ministry of Education. The Vetevendosje Movement would remain alone in the opposition and would certainly grow stronger during this mandate.”
