Koha’s Brussels based correspondent, Augustin Palokaj, writes in an opinion piece, that Hashim Thaci, besides being Isa Mustafa’s partner in the power-sharing coalition, seems that he is also his political mentor. Palokaj writes that Thaci should be a phenomenon in Europe, who, gives promises that are not fulfilled and he continues with new promises, while no one asks why.
After at least three-four years have passed that Thaci mentioned deadlines for visa liberalization, Mustafa promises that in the first half of next year, Kosovo will travel without visas. There are slim chances that it will happen, just as there are very slim chances for Kosovo to mark any formal steps in the process of EU integration. The newly elected government of Kosovo and the way it was formed, makes it clear that there will be no changes in this regard, writes Palokaj.
Isa Mustafa and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), same as Ramush Haradinaj and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), so far have only supported the compromises that Thaci reached with Serbia in Brussels. But now Isa Mustafa and LDK will take direct responsibility for the implementation of Pristina – Belgrade agreements.
Palokaj writes that, for him, it is surprising how the Kosovars have not learned some of the main principles of political communication. Two words that people will not hear from Western politicians are ‘never’ and ‘guarantee’. According to Palokaj, Kosovo should move towards integration in the EU and work more on visa liberalization process. “But this will not happen with the large number of ministers and deputy ministers, nor by promises or by calling in political assistance,” concludes Palokaj.
