Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hashim Thaci, writes in his opinion piece today about the priorities of the Ministry that he leads, starting from Kosovo’s integration in the European Union and NATO to signing of the Stabilization Association Agreement, liberalization of visas for Kosovo population, application for membership at the Council of Europe, and gaining of the guidelines for Partnership for Peace with NATO.

“This week, Kosovo will host the Ministerial Summit of Western Balkans, where 12 Foreign and Transport Ministers from the region as well as senior EU officials, those of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the World Bank, are expected to participate. Kosovo’s equal participation in this process initiated by Germany, is a strong signal that a stabile Balkans and its integration in the EU, cannot be imagined without Kosovo. We are becoming known in the world for our transformation from an importer of security resources and attention for crisis management, to an exporter of peaceful initiatives, interethnic and inter-religion dialogue. Kosovo’s progressive role in fighting violent extremism and radicalism has been hailed by the Foreign Ministries, including the U.S. Secretary of State, John Carry and respective European Commissioners.

Kosovo’s place in the European family and among the democratic states is guaranteed. Furthermore, Kosovo will be a leader for consolidation of peace in Balkans and spreading of a new era for Western Balkans. This week’s Summit in Pristina, is a step further towards reaching this significant aim for our children,” writes Thaci.
