Lack of accountability (Kosova Sot)

The front page editorial of this daily claims that a system of anti-values has been ruling in Kosovo for several years now. The laws and regulations do not implement while the government continues with lack of transparency in all of its segments. “Unfortunately, governing politicians have privatized this space as well, and they do not allow anything to leak outside without their approval. This self-isolation of the state has a name: corruption,” reads the editorial, which criticizes further the government for keeping all its decisions secret and for not giving account for granting tenders or subventions. “Hundreds of millions of Euros circulate through the public procurement, where the corruptive affairs are common, due to a superficial and low quality auditing and a rotten justice. Cases of corruption are never enlightened, while respective officials fill their pockets together with their Mafiosi networks, escaping punishment.

The current government is not giving signs of accountability either. Practice shows that the government might have slightly changed its shape but not the content. Governing officials are forgetting that they are there to serve all the citizens and that they should give account for each spent cent. ..This cannot happen because the same old team is in the government. Closing of the government in its own shell is a warning for worse days to come for the public and state stability. All governments which do not give account for their work, are destined to fail. Ministers and their associates should not hide, they should report on what they are doing to improve governance. If they do not manage to this, then there is a solution: let them resign,” concludes this daily.
