In an interview for Deutsche Welle in Albanian, European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn said he is convinced that regional cooperation helps in bringing the people together. He said the fact that the latest Western Balkans Summit took place in Kosovo on Serbia’s proposal shows the potential behind this multilateral cooperation.

“I believe multilateral activities are very suitable for overcoming bilateral problems. Everyone should contribute to the functioning of these agreements because no one should be left aside to simply watch. Therefore, the social pressure for achieving concrete results is greater if representatives of six countries gather in one place rather when the solution is sought only by two countries,” said Hahn. He added that the EU will pledge up to one billion euro for transport projects in the Western Balkans region over the coming years.
