Serbs request law and order from police in northern Kosovo (RTK2)

Leaders of local administration in northern Kosovo requested yesterday from Kosovo Police a concrete measures for the stabilization of situation in North Mitrovica following the range of incidents in that town during the Easter.

Statement issued from the cabinet of the Mayor of North Mitrovica, Goran Rakić, says that meeting with the representative of Kosovo Police from northern Kosovo, was attended and by the Minister for Local Government Administration in the Kosovo government, Ljubomir Maric, and the chairperson of the provisional body (in the Serbian system) Aleksandar Spirić.

Statement reads that local leaders have requested from Kosovo Police more rigorous controls in North Mitrovica, and locations where several incidents took place in last couple days and where renewed clashes could break out, such as the bridge over the Ibar/Ibër River and other multi-ethnic areas.

Security and greater involvement of security structures in the north will be discussed and at today’s meeting of local Serb leaders from the north and KFOR commander and the head of EULEX, reads the statement.
