Assembly of Kosovo elects Hilmi Jashari as Ombudsperson

Kosovo Assembly MPs elected Hilmi Jashari as the new Ombudsperson. Following the voting, Jashari took the oath in front of the MPs of the Assembly as the new Ombudsperson.

63 MPs voted for Jashari’s candidature while his counter-candidates, namely Isa Hasani received nine votes and Shqipe Mala received only five votes, whereas three votes were announced as invalid.

The Assembly had failed several times to elect the Ombudsperson.

The institution of Ombudsperson so far was headed by Sami Kurteshi whereas Hilmi Jashari exercised the duty of the deputy.

Jahjaga: Institutions to find the way of fulfilling the international obligations

President of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga said that she expects from the institutions of Kosovo to find the way of fulfilling the international obligations, to respect the decision of the Assembly and the international agreements.

Jahjaga stressed, during a meeting with the Director of the Office of South Central European Affairs of the U.S. Department of State Thomas Yazdgerdi, that Kosovo remains unambiguous in its orientation to be a strong partner of the U.S and proud with the partnership and joint achievements to date of this friendship.

President Jahjaga also assessed that the dialogue for the normalization of relations between the Kosovo and Serbia is important for resolving the issues between the two countries, but stressed that of particular importance is the implementation of the agreements reached so far, reads a press release issued by the Office of the President.

Thaçi: Kosovo ready for EULEX’s transition

Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister, Hashim Thaçi, accompanied by the Minister of European Integration Bekim Çollaku, discussed with the Deputy Secretary General for the European External Action Service (EEAS) Maciej Popowski, about EULEX’s future and recent developments in Kosovo.

Deputy Prime Minister Thaçi thanked EULEX for its continued commitment in local capacity building in area of the rule of law but stressed that Kosovo is already consolidated as a state and should be treated as such. Hence, according to Thaçi, Kosovo is ready to assume all responsibilities of rule of law.

“Kosovo is ready to assume all responsibilities in the area of rule of law. Now we can continue to cooperate and coordinate vis-à-vis EULEX’s transition,” said Thaçi.

Rasic: Institutions should establish the Special Court

According to unofficial information, the Assembly of Kosovo will discuss in its following plenary session, scheduled for 09 July, the constitutional amendments that pave the way for the establishment of the Special Court.

However, Kosovo MP and chairperson of the Progressive Democratic Party, Nenad Rasic in an interview for RTK2 expressed his doubts that the Assembly of Kosovo will discuss this issue on 09 July.

Rasic considers that Kosovo Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and Deputy PM Hashim Thaçi during their visit to Brussels and Berlin were told about the consequences if the Assembly fails to pass the bill on Special Court. Moreover, Rasic said that the opportunity to do something good and positive for Kosovo should not be missed.

He considers that all will loose if there is the opinion that Kosovo institutions are not able to do their part of the work. Rasic said that if the Government is not able to enact this important matter for Kosovo’s future, then according to him, there is no point for this Government to exist.

Peci: Mitrovica/Mitrovicë Basic Court to be functional by October

On Thursday, Kosovo Judicial Council (KJC) Chairperson Enver Peci accompanied by his associates visited the Basic Court in Mitrovica/Mitrovicë north, in order to oversee the interviews conducted for Serb judges, which will be integrated in Kosovo’s judicial system.

In relation to the full functionalization of this court, Peci stressed that all the procedures will be finalised until 01 October, as it has been stipulated in the Agreement, and according to him, by that time Albanian and Serb judges will jointly start the work in this Court.

AAK re-elects Haradinaj as party-chair

AAK re-elected Haradinaj as the party chair for an additional mandate. 527 delegates voted for him, three were against him, and two ballots were announced invalid. In the seventh AAK electoral Convention, Haradinaj was elected through secrete voting. Because he did not have any counter-candidate, Haradinaj received over 99 per cent of the votes.

Haradinaj said that the lack of counter-candidates does not make AAK undemocratic.

Moreover, Haradinaj said that heads of 11 branches in national level have been replaced and noting that new members have joined this political force.

Meanwhile, he continued to criticize the current Government and stated that Kosovo needs a Government which would be leaded by his party.
