Kosovo’s President Atifete Jahjaga during a lecture at the University of Columbia, said that the survivors of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo continue to face many challenges even after 16 years. “Local and international prosecutors have failed to deliver justice for the for survivors of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo,” Jahjaga said, adding that the international community which administered Kosovo after the war never dealt with a case of sexual crime. “There is no peace for Kosovo, until the survivors of sexual violence have peace as well,” she said. Jahjaga said that Kosovo is still far from fulfilling all the criteria of a state of prosperity and economic development, far away from corruption.
