“NATO data show that more than 600 people from Kosovo went to fight for the Islamic State, whereas according to official date the number is 300. There is no official information on who they are, who recruited them and how they went there. However, it is believed that a network for recruiting already exists, attracting young and poor people with money,” told Dalibor Jevtic, Kosovo Minister for communities and returns and member of the Security Council of Kosovo.

Were concrete steps taken in stopping the expansion of IS ?

As a member of the Security Council of Kosovo, I got official confirmation that certain steps were taken. About 60 returnees from Syria and Iraq are in prison, and around 50 of them under constant surveillance by the competent services. It has been said that Kosovo Police, “keeps the situation under control.” However, after KFOR stopped and arrested a group of Islamists in front of the Decani monastery, it has become obvious that more things need to be done on preventing the expansion of Islamic radicalism in Kosovo.

Are the Serbs in Kosovo a target of IS? After the incident at Visoki Decani monastery it could be concluded that they are.

What is most worrying is that Serbian people may be the main target, if you look at everything that has happened in the recent past. This is why I bring up this issue at every meeting and every opportunity I get. I request and insist on the protection of returnees, the Serbian people, but also of all citizens and on every kind of preventative measure.
