Ramush Haradinaj, the detained leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), told Radio Free Europe today that he might return to Kosovo next week as the court proceedings against him are expected to be concluded by mid next week. He said the accusations against him by Belgrade authorities are “a political game on the eve of elections”. “This is a mindset from times of war that has returned to Belgrade and it correlates with the upcoming elections there. This however does not mean that all of the Balkans and Albanians should submit to this mindset. We want to have peace in the Balkans. We want the Balkans to join the European Union and NATO. The current mindset in Belgrade is unacceptable and Albanians and myself will never submit to it,” Haradinaj added. Asked to comment on high-level talks between Pristina and Belgrade, Haradinaj said: “I think that talks and dialogue are mainly happening for the sake of the leaders and not the people that they represent, because an increased war-inciting rethoric is apparent during the talks. The only ones benefiting from these talks are the leaders and not the people of the Balkans. I strongly believe that the difficulties we face in the Balkans comes from incompetent ruling elites that fail to draft sustainable economic policies and strengthen the rule of law”.
