President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolić assessed today that it is very important for preservation of the stability that Kosovo and Metohija remains the top priority of the UN.

At his meeting with the Head of UNMIK, Zahir Tanin, Nikolić stressed the importance of that mission in Kosovo and Metohija, and voiced expectation that the size and number of UNMIK staff won’t change. Nikolić expressed satisfaction with regular quarterly reports to the UN Security Council, which, according to him, contributes that international community has an insight in what is happening in Kosovo and Metohija.

“We are negotiating with Pristina, even though EU is fully on their side, however everyone should be aware that we will never recognize independence of Kosovo and Metohija. On the other side, we expect from Pristina to show readiness to respect the laws and implement what has been agreed, foremost the Community of Serb municipalities”, said Nikolić.

The head of UNMIK thanked Nikolić on the strong support to this mission and said that UNMIK is investing efforts aimed that all reports submitted to the UN Security Council are balanced and objective. “We have been working a lot in the field, providing support to institutions. The report will be useful to entire international community,” said Tanin, and voiced expectation that mandate and activities of UNMIK won’t be changed.
