Ivanović: I believe in justice despite everything (Večernje Novosti)

Leader of the CI SDP Oliver Ivanović told Večernje Novosti that he expects to be released on Wednesday, after three years of detention.

“Despite everything, I believe in justice and that truth always overpowers all injustices. I am pleased with the decision of the Court of Appeals of Kosovo, which reversed the first instance verdict for alleged war crimes, and I expect the termination of detention, but, above all, an acquittal” Oliver Ivanović said to Večernje Novosti.

One of Ivanović’s lawyers Ljubomir Pantović said that the Presiding judge of the panel of the Basic Court in Mitrovica Roxana Komsa has scheduled a session for Wednesday which would decide about the appeal related to detention.

He explained that the session would not be open to the public and that most probably it would be held in the premises of EULEX. Pantović says that “it is difficult to prejudge the decision, but the defence lawyers will submit evidence that there is every reason to completely terminate the detention”.

The main argument would be, inter alia, the fact that Ivanović was already under house arrest four months in 2015 and 2016 and that he could have “escaped a thousand times if he only wanted.”
