Bajram Gecaj, Kosovo’s Deputy Minister for Local Government and advisor to Kosovo Prime Minister, said today that Kosovo Serbs are equal citizens in Kosovo and that “the state of Kosovo has no need to buy or sell them”. Gecaj’s remarks came as a response to a statement by Marko Djuric, director of the Serbian Government’s Office for Kosovo, who said that Kosovo was trying to buy off Kosovo Serbs in exchange for their votes in favor of the formation of the Kosovo Army. Gecaj wrote on his Facebook account: “Mr. Djuric, Kosovo Serbs are equal citizens (in fact they have positive discrimination) of the Republic of Kosovo, and we don’t have to buy or sell them. It is the Government of Serbia that has manipulated Kosovo Serbs and unfortunately continues to do so against their civic and human interests.”
