Sixteen LDK MPs address a request to PM Mustafa regarding Demarcation

(RTK& KTV)

Sixteen LDK MPs, who are against ratification of the Border Agreement with Montenegro, said they would vote it at the Assembly, in case the Government would take their proposals regarding this agreement into consideration.

In the proposal of MP Adem Salihaj, which is also supported by other LDK MPs, it is called on Government to reach an additional agreement with Montenegro so that the Agreement on Border with Montenegro is renegotiated in a year’s time.

Salihaj said that there is also willingness of Prime Minister Isa Mustafa to discuss their proposal.

On the other hand, Srpska List caucus leader Slavko Simic did not accept to speak with KTV if Serb MPs will vote Demarcation at the Assembly, or not.

MP Nenad Rasic, who is also the Head of Serb Progressive Democratic Party, said that he still hasn’t been contacted by the Government regarding his stance on Demarcation. Rasic also said that his personal vote will depend on Prime Minister’s action, who, according to him, has obligations toward the political party that Rasic represents.

But, PM’s advisor Bajram Gecaj said that Srpska List has expressed its willingness to vote ratification of Demarcation with Montenegro.

Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has constantly urged the Government led by Isa Mustafa to submit ratification of Demarcation to the Assembly. Members of this party have also announced breaking of coalition with LDK in case voting of this Agreement does not happen at the Assembly.

Kosovo Government has announced that it will submit the Agreement on Delineation of the Border with Montenegro during this week.

RTK portal reported that aside from Vetëvendosje Movement, the proposal of LDK MP, Adem Salihaj, was also opposed by Alliance for the Future of Kosovo and Nisma për Kosovën.

Elections near, no time for electoral reform

(TV21)

At a time when voices even within the governing coalition have added up that this week will be decisive if early elections will be held or not, these elections and the local ones will be held without the reform of electoral system.

At the Kosovo Democratic Institute (KDI) say that such a reform should be concluded not less than 12 months prior to holding of elections.

“It is already too late for any kind of electoral reform, be it for the local or general elections. Furthermore, there is no time for even cosmetic changes, because they would damage the election process in general. No matter the elections, be them the early ones, they should be held with the existing legislation,” said Albert Krasniqi of this Institute.

Representatives of the governing coalition also say that early elections might be held very soon and, according to them, there is no time for electoral reform.

The opposition did not join the initiative of President Hashim Thaçi for electoral reform, since, as their representatives say, they do not want to be part of his insincere initiatives.

“The electoral reform was not a sincere initiative. The Law on Elections is not the reason why elections were manipulated. The problem was that the Law was violated,” said Vetëvendosje MP Shqipe Pantina.

However, monitor of Kosovo Assembly’s work, Albert Krasniqi, explained the necessity of electoral reform.

“The electoral reform is necessary not only for improvement of the aspect of elections administration, which would positively impact in case there would be an adequate electoral reform, but also for increasing and improving representation of citizens in the Assembly through MPs that they could elect in elections,” Krasniqi said.
