The European Commission does not comment on a recent proposal to add an annex to the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro, according to which the agreement would be reviewed after one year. Katarzyna Kolanko, from the Office of the European Commission, told the news website today that the Commission is aware about the importance of visa liberalization for the people of Kosovo, but that it does not comment on possible initiatives to meet the visa liberalization requirements. “At a meeting with President Thaci on February 9, President Juncker praised him for the recent progress in Kosovo, including data about high-level cases of organized crime and corruption … The Commission also acknowledges Kosovo’s efforts to ratify the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro. As foreseen in the legislative proposal of the Commission in May 2016, the ratification of this agreement is a requirement for visa liberalization. It is very important for this process to be concluded so that the Commission can give the green light to the legislators,” Katarzyna said. She also mentioned the meeting between Commissioner Avramopulous and Prime Minister Mustafa. “Last week, Commissioner Avramopulous met with Prime Minister Mustafa to discuss the final steps for meeting the remaining visa liberalization criteria for Kosovo. The Commissioner encouraged Prime Minister Mustafa, his government and political parties to proceed soon with the vote on the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro”.
