The paper’s editor-in-chief, Lavdim Hamiti, writes in an op-ed that only “naïve” members of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) could have believed in the sincerity of their now-former coalition partners, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK). He says the PDK’s former leader, Hashim Thaci, and the present one, Kadri Veseli, have built their entire political career on not respecting agreements and the recent case with Isa Mustafa is one such case. Hamidi writes that Mustafa only managed to become prime minister in 2014 after “betraying” the opposition bloc known at the time as VLAN and signing coalition agreement with PDK. “And as a reward, one year before his mandate was to end, he was betrayed precisely by the PDK”. And while Hamidi considers the end of the Mustafa-led government to be a good thing, he attributes the main failures of the government to President Hashim Thaci. The only way to save the LDK from a devastating downfall ahead of elections, according to Hamidi, is to have Mustafa step down from leading the party and make room for new people.
