The Pristina-based Council for the Defense of Human Rights and Freedoms (CDHRF) issued a press release today saying that it has a list of nine candidates of the Serb Liberal Party who were allegedly threatened by Serbian authorities that they will be fired or subject to other measures if they don’t leave the election list of this political party. According to the CDHRF, some of the Serbs that did not obey Belgrade’s demands have already been removed from work, were temporarily suspended or were relocated to different positions. “The Serb Liberal Party in Kosovo has reported these threats to the Kosovo State Prosecution but so far has received no response … The CDHRF believes that the right to vote is one of the basic human rights guaranteed by law and it should be protected by law. Those that threaten this right should be brought to justice. The case of the Serb Liberal Party and the threats against Nenad Rasic are punishable and we expect the State Prosecution to undertake legal measures and protect this right,” the press release noted.
