Analysts expect a higher turnout in Serbian areas in comparison with the previous elections, because unlike some previous elections there is no pressure to boycott the elections, reported N1.
From NGO AKTIV based in northern Kosovo say they expect a higher turnout because there are no more organized pressure not to vote, but on the contrary, the encouragement to turn out to polls in large numbers.
“We had a study which showed that 25% of people will go to the polls, 50 do not want and 25% did not want to respond, although it was an anonymous survey. These 25% in most cases are voters, but again exists some sort of social pressure not to say that they are still going to vote in the Kosovo elections,” said Miograd Marinković from AKTIV.
Marinković thinks that the turnout will be higher.
He explains that there is no fear among people what will happen if they go the polls, because that was the case in some previous elections. Now there is some awareness among citizens, political parties and in Belgrade that Serbs have to be encouraged to go out to the polls in large numbers and so exercise their rights through some of the mechanisms that are given to the Serb community in Kosovo.
Unlike previous elections, N1 reports, Serbian voters in the elections on Sunday can vote for six different parties. Observers say that this time the Serbian electorate will have the opportunity to vote for parties that enjoy support from Belgrade, but also for those who say that they defend the authentic interests of Serbs in Kosovo.
Citizens do not hesitate to express their opinion on the election. While some say they will not vote, others feel that it is not worth voting.
