The President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci requested from the entire political specter in Kosovo to leave aside political and party divisions, in order to support discussions between Kosovo and Serbia on normalization of relations.

In an interview given to RTK from Brussels, Thaci said that Kosovo’s only way for integration is that of dialogue and integration, and within this segment, he said, there should not be political divergences.

He said that today’s meeting with Serbia’s President, Aleksandar Vucic, is in the range of the other meetings and expressed optimism that this kind of dialogue would have e satisfactory end for the people of Kosovo and for its friendly countries, the U.S. as well as EU as mediator of the dialogue.

Kosovo’s President once again called on all political parties, parties’ leaders, media, civil society, as well as on experts to give their contribution in this negotiating process.

“Only through discussions and integration we will be able to move forward in the direction of peace, stability and integration. We should all be responsible for our duties…” Thaci said.

Asked by RTK if a joint agreement with Serbia could be reached this year, Thaci said that due to the delicate discussions, the date cannot be given, but that discussions should have a satisfactory epilogue.

“We and internationals are interested for the issues to move forward, because the sooner the discussions flow the faster the two countries move on integration processes,” he said.

Kosovo’s President also said that there should not be populism and applause in this dialogue process, but that the process should conclude in accordance with Kosovo’s constitutional framework. “Good neighborly relations and continuance of democratic, economic, political and legislative reforms, accelerate Kosovo’s way to EU,” reiterated Thaci, promising also speedy mandating  of the winner of the elections in order to create the government, and move forward with democratic processes.
