The Democratic League of Kosovo can choose between going in the opposition, or accepting coalition offers from the PAN coalition (PDK, AAK and NISMA) and the Vetevendosje Movement. Representatives of PAN, the coalition that won the biggest number of votes in the 11 June parliamentary elections, have said on several occasions that the LDK will be part of their ruling coalition. Meanwhile, the Vetevendosje Movement, which is the second-biggest party after the elections, said that if PAN fails to form a new government, they will try to enter a coalition with the LDK. LDK officials meanwhile told Radio Free Europe that for the time being they don’t want to enter any coalition. LDK deputy leader Agim Veliu said they are expecting the parties that won the biggest number of votes to form a government by cooperating with minority communities. “We are expecting that PAN, together with the Vetevendosje Movement and the Serbian List and other minorities, to form a new government. They are the ones that brought down the previous government,” he said. “I prefer going in the opposition rather than going for options that don’t favor the LDK. This is our position for the time being”. Pal Lekaj, deputy leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), said the PAN coalition has the necessary votes to form a new government. “Haradinaj [PAN’s candidate for Prime Minister] is willing to cooperate and reach an agreement with the LDK too, in order to have a more stable and functioning government,” he said. The Vetevendosje Movement does not expect the PAN coalition will be able to form a new government. Tinka Kurti from the media office of Vetevendosje told Radio Free Europe that her party will form the new government and that invitations to coalition partners are now open. “We believe the people have voted for change. The Vetevendosje Movement has become the biggest party, and the PDK has been sent to the opposition. We need to come together and form the government after the formation of the Assembly,” she said.
