Rakić: Reducing the UNMIK mission would be very harmful to Serbs in Kosovo (Blic)

The President of the Serb List Goran Rakić says that UNMIK is irreplaceable as an impartial arbiter of human rights in Kosovo, and that any further reduction or devaluation of that mission would go directly to the detriment of the Serbian people and all non-Albanian communities in the province.

– UNMIK is here and as a permanent reminder that Resolution 1244 is a politically alive document, which Kosovo and Metohija views as part of Serbia – said Rakić to Tanjug.

He added that it is clear to him that precisely because of this “UNMIK can bother those who support the efforts to tear KiM from Serbia”.

– But those who truly want to be good to all people here, regardless of their nationality, cannot and should not support unreasonable demands for the withdrawal of that mission – said Rakic.

According to him, the withdrawal of the UN or its mission from an unstable post-conflict area, such as Kosovo, would irretrievably reduce the efforts to resolve the issue of the return of internally displaced persons, ensure the rule of law and protect the interests of the Serbian people.

– When one add proposals to reduce sessions of the UN Security Council about Kosovo and Metohija, it is clear that we have in front of us a clearly stated intention of some countries to make international community blind for everything that is happening here and that, I believe, would be a defeat of the entire UN system – warned Rakić.
