Political analyst and head of the Republic of Serbia Representative Office in Washington Obrad Kesić says, in an interview with today’s Blic, that the Balkans are not only the subject of a political fight between the West and Russia, but are also currently the subject of internal struggle about the control over the US foreign policy.

He further explains that the political establishment is trying to maintain the policy of previous administrations in this region in every way. He says that such a policy is under impact of primarily the desire of President Trump to cut down the power and influence of the State Department. In this context, the Balkans, as well as other regions that are at the periphery of American interests, will feel the reduced budget announced by the State Department.

Kesić also says that regardless of the outcome of the struggle for power in Washington, we will never again see such a big activity and involvement of America in this region, and that this was first understood by Albanians, who are now trying to push through all the key ambitions because they fear that time is not on their side.
