Presidents of Serbia and Kosovo, Aleksandar Vučić and Hashim Thaqi will meet in Brussels on Thursday at the EU headquarters in Brussels under the auspices of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security.

President of the Forum for Ethnic Relations, Dušan Janjić estimates for Danas that this will be “one of the preparatory meetings for a new phase of Brussels Dialogue, which will, possibly, be maintained in the future at a monthly level.”

– The next few meetings will define the form and topics of further negotiations on resolving the Kosovo issue. It is expected that this preparatory phase will be completed by the end of 2017 or the beginning of next year.

Janjić points out that Federica Mogherini “is likely to remain in the protocol role of the host of meetings,” but it should be expected that another European, and possibly also the Americans, will soon be involved in the dialogue, who will have the “operative” role of in the next stages of the negotiations.

Daily Danas reports that diplomatic sources say that it is “almost certain” that the format of the Brussels negotiations will soon be altered, so that the talks at the highest political level in the future will be led by the presidents, and not the prime ministers, as was the case in the previous phases.

According to the information provided by Danas daily for such a decision to be officially adopted necessary is to have “green light” of the Kosovo parliament.
