Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said on Sunday that Serbia firmly supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Spain, as well as its unity.

He added that Spain is one of Serbia’s greatest friends.

“I would ask all political factors not to play with this issue,” Dacic said after the opening of an exhibition marking 70 years of UNICEF in Serbia.

Apparently referring to Kosovo, Dacic added that double standards have manifested in Serbia’s case – and that in Spain, “as in our case, we are talking about unilateral moves that are not in accordance with the Constitution and the central government and as such constitute a violation of international law.”

“It is interesting to me that some politicians from Serbia went to Barcelona, but did not go to Banja Luka when there was talk of a referendum (in the Serb Republic). That is unprincipled,” Dačić said, alluding to opposition LSV party leader Nenad Canak.

Dacic once again stressed that Serbia’s position remains unchanged, and that the country warned that “the scenario that happened to us can happen to every country in the world.”

“If there is no international law, there is no one to protect us, and everything depends on the love of great powers – and that is a very relative category,” Dacic said.

Spain is one of five EU member states that have not recognized the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo.
