Kosovo’s Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj said today that now is the best time for the government to send clear messages that it understands the importance of the fight against human trafficking. “We need to use all legal means to prevent this specific crime. We need to identify and punish the perpetrators. We need to further advance our operational capacities and expertise. Regional cooperation and cooperation with the EU is also very important. Another element that we to take into account is that different kinds of crimes are related. Human trafficking can be used as a basis for other crimes too,” Haradinaj told a conference on the European Day against Human Trafficking. He also said Kosovo and EU have proved their commitment to combat this crime. Natalya Apostolova, head of the European Union Office in Pristina, said: “Preventing and combating human trafficking is one of the top priorities of the European Union. The EU wants to help Kosovo in fighting human trafficking by sharing experiences and expertise. Uprooting human trafficking is a complex process. The EU supports Kosovo in fighting this phenomena”.
