Belgrade based daily Vecernje Novosti in its article published over the weekend argues whether it is possible to change the intermediary in the Brussels dialogue, Pristina insistence to involve the USA in the process and that both sides need to agree on the format of the negotiations.

The USA cannot sit at the table as a direct participant in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, without the consent of Belgrade, despite the strong efforts of Pristina to “drag in” Washington as the main intermediary, Novosti further reports.

If Kosovo politicians would continue to condition continuation of talks in Brussels with the USA involvement, then the Serbian side could make a similar request and ask for presence of Russia and China, or even to bring the dialogue back under the UN auspices.

Spokesperson of the EU High Representative, Maja Kocijancic, asked to comment on possible USA involvement said earlier that “the EU closely cooperates with USA on the Western Balkans. The work on dialogue for normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina is underway and that both sides confirmed their strong commitment to continue the talks and implement all reached agreements,” Novosti daily said.

According to Kocijancic the date for the next high level meeting is not set yet, while “the both sides decide on the format and the topics of the dialogue,” Novosti reported.
