Kosovo Women’s Network will be launching today the report “Kosovo’s progress on approximating its laws on gender equality with the EU ones.”
Gresa Rrahmani, from Kosovo Women’s Network, said that the intention of this document is to see how much Kosovo’s legislation has approximated the EU one, when gender equality is concerned.
“This document has identified where the shortcomings are, and the recommendations can be given,” she said today in the morning show “Good morning Kosovo” on RTK.
According to her, Kosovo has good legislation on gender equality, but it lacks implementation. “There is no need for new laws on gender equality, there is a need for harmonization and fulfillment,” she stressed adding that this is also required by EU directives.
She assessed that women are discriminated in many areas, such as at work etc. “From the moment when vacancies are advertised, people are encouraged to ask for specifics, so here we are dealing with discrimination, where there are requirements for family planning. Maybe the employers are not aware of the Labor Law, “she said.
According to her, there is more discrimination in the private sector. “It is better in the public sector, but there are violations there as well,” Rrahmani said.
