The Office for Kosovo and Metohija asked the competent authorities in Kosovo to urgently determine who committed the attack on Bojan Staletovic in the multi-ethnic settlement of the Bosniak Mahalla in the northern part of Mitrovica, RTS reports.
“We warn that incidents of this kind, besides the Serbs’ unrest in Kosovska Mitrovica, can cause an uncontrolled escalation of interethnic violence, which is not in the interest of Serbian and Albanian residents of this city,” the statement reads, RTS reports.
It also indicates that the police by bringing in the perpetrators must contribute to the creation of a safe environment in the Bosniak Mahala, where interethnic incidents are unfortunately more and more frequent.
“The attack on Bojan Staletovic confirms how justified the fears and scepticism of local authorities in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica regarding the opening of the bridge over the Ibar and how dangerous it is to insist on this without before creating adequate security conditions,” the statement said.
