Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister Dardan Gashi said today that privatization was not the magic wand for Kosovo’s development as initially expected and that Kosovo’s assets were sold at ridiculously low prices. “10 years ago, it was believed that the privatization process could be the magic wand that would bring economic development to Kosovo, but that was not the case. Valuable assets were sold at ridiculously low prices and so far we have accumulated around €600 million which the Republic of Kosovo cannot use,” Gashi said at a conference in Pristina today. He further argued that Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj’s decision to suspend the privatization of agricultural lands is aimed at preventing Kosovo’s continuous losses in this respect.
