Haradinaj: A matter of weeks before we get news for visa liberalization (media)
Kosovo Prime Minister, Ramush Haradinaj, said today that it is a matter of weeks before Kosovo gets the news for visa liberalization. Haradinaj said he is working actively on the matter. “I believe it is in everyone’s interest for this to happen as soon as possible. I am working actively on this matter, I believe it won’t go on indefinitely. I think we will get the news for visa liberalization in a matter of weeks, then it takes several months for it to be completed. I will visit Brussels on December 18, they haven’t promised me anything, you have seen my position in Parliament and in public. Kosovo must get what it deserves, otherwise there is no point in attending those meetings,” Haradinaj added.

The news website recalls that Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj has called for the involvement of the United States of America in the EU-brokered dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade, but the U.S. has not commented on the matter yet. Kosovo President Hashim Thaci said recently that he received confirmation from U.S. Vice President Michael Pence that the U.S. will be more actively involved in dialogue. EU spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic addressed the matter in a reply to the news website. “The European Union is working closely with the United States of America on Western Balkans,” Kocijancic said. She added that work on dialogue is ongoing and that both Serbia and Kosovo are committed to improving their relations. “Both parties have reconfirmed their strong engagement to resume talks and implement all agreements”.

The United States Ambassador in Kosovo, Greg Delawie, said today that the international community is here to provide its assistance but that Kosovo’s authorities must be in the lead of the fight against corruption. He said that the Kosovo Assembly needs to ratify as soon as possible the changes that will be made to the Kosovo Penal Code. “We have heard about the process led by the Ministry of Justice to review the Penal Code, including the contribution of civil society and the international community to eliminate all shortcomings. We have also heard their pledge to continue reforms that increase the discipline of the judiciary and when this happens the Assembly must adopt the package as soon as possible,” Delawie said.
