Members of the Kosovo Assembly have been instructed by the Assembly Presidency not to travel abroad before February 20. Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) MP, Naser Osmani, told the news agency that no one can force MPs to attend a plenary session and that the instruction would make sense only if its purpose is to save the budget. “An MP can be in Kosovo and not attend a session. There can also be a lack of quorum if a parliamentary group decides not to attend a session, regardless of whether an MP is in Kosovo or abroad. This instruction does not make sense … If the decision of the Assembly Presidency is aimed at securing quorum on certain issues, this is unreasonable,” Osmani said. Vetevendosje MP, Ali Lajci, said he views the decision of the Assembly as a request to MPs not to miss out on sessions and also to make sure there is quorum for adopting the laws. “We need to attend assembly sessions on all matters,” he said. Albert Krasniqi from the Kosovo Democratic Institute that monitors the work of the Assembly, said the presidency’s instruction could be related to two important decisions, the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro and the initiative to revoke the Specialist Chambers.
