The EU countries stress that agreement between Kosovo and Serbia is the key to advancing towards EU.
EU furthermore harshens the criteria towards Western Balkans countries when it comes to EU membership, especially when the rule of law and war against corruption are concerned.
One of the most sensitive points mentioned in the “Strategy for Western Balkans countries” is the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia. According to this Strategy, the issue between Kosovo and Serbia should be resolved by 2019.
It further brings to attention that the dialogue issue between Pristina and Belgrade has an impact on the entire region and it should resolve prior to EU membership.
There cannot be a sustainable stability in the region without normalization of the relations between Pristina and Belgrade, through dialogue, under supervision of the EU, is noted in the Strategy.
