Aleksandar Vucic has compared the situation around Kosovo with the game of chess.

The Serbian president spoke for RTS about his meeting on Tuesday with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, with whom he spoke about Kosovo. As he said, the opinions of Germany and Serbia about a compromise that should be reached by Serbia and Kosovo are very different, report Serbian media.

“Merkel did not criticize me because she respected my courage. I presented solutions that are not stereotypical and not everyone agrees with them. I said that I always listen to all the criticism, but also that I must say what I think. I think it is important to reach a compromise because if we cannot achieve it, we will have severe consequences,” Vucic said.

He then compared the situation around Kosovo with the game of chess.

“We are playing without the queen and the rook, and are trying to pull out a pat. To place our king into the corner, and that their pawns to not let us move and pull a draw,” Vucic has been quoted as saying.

Insajder portal writes that Vucic last night said that if Belgrade and Pristina sign a legally binding agreement by 2019, Serbia will receive all guarantees for joining the European Union by 2025.

Vucic told the Prva Television that he had talked with German Chancellor Angela Merkel about a legally binding agreement, but that the paper was still white, writes today Insajder portal.

“If we sign this agreement, we will get all the guarantees, and the guarantees we receive in Berlin are the guarantees that I believe the most,” Vucic said.

Asked what is now on the table in negotiations with Pristina, Vucic said that he would speak to the people about this at the beginning of April.

“With the Chancellor, I was talking about everything. The paper is still white, but there are all kinds of things there, and I spoke with Chancellor Merkel about various modalities,” he said.

He said he was in favour of a compromise solution with Pristina, but he did not want to comment on the idea of division of Kosovo, Insajder reports.

“No matter how we are going to solve the issue of our borders with Pristina, no matter how we will resolve the territorial issue with Kosovo, there will be no conflicts. This kind of resolution leads to the end of the conflicts between Serbs and Albanians. I am absolutely sure that it will eliminate hostility that exists for more than 100 years,” he said.

He also said that in April he would come out with something concrete before the citizens, when it comes to Kosovo, but that “does not mean that Vucic will recognize Kosovo,” the portal reports.
