The Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS) would today for the seventh time place a memorial plaque next to the Orahovac-Velika Hoca road, dedicated to the missing Radio Pristina journalists Djuro Slavuj and Ranko Perenic, Radio kontakt plus reported.
UNS press statement reads they placed six times a plaque with the inscription – Our colleagues, journalists Djuro Slavuj and Ranko Perenic, were kidnapped here on 21 August 1999. We are searching for them – and today they would do it again, as the previous memorial plaque has been removed.
“Every time the plaque was removed, and last time in February this year the plaque was broken and taken away. Large quantity of animal bones were scattered around the place where the plaque used to be. UNS continues to search for the truth as to what happened to our colleagues,” press statement adds.
The Association recalled EULEX closed down the investigation into kidnapping of Perenic and Slavuj four years ago, informing the Perenic family about their decision in November 2017 only, following a series of articles on murders and kidnappings of journalists in which UNS proved nothing was done to shed the light on these crimes.
“Family of Djuro Slavuj did not get any notification yet. Kosovo Special Prosecution which is taking over the cases from EULEX repeated they would consider as open all cases of murdered and kidnapped journalists,” UNS statement said.
