Kosovo Prime Minister, Ramush Haradinaj, said today that Kosovo cannot wait forever to transform the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) into the Armed Forces. Haradinaj did not say when the transformation would take place but said that it would happen in the future. After a meeting with foreign ambassadors in Kosovo, Haradinaj said Kosovo is ready to contribute to security in the country. He also said the transformation of the KSF into an army would not imply taking over competencies from KFOR. “We respect KFOR and the future army of Kosovo will facilitate the work of KFOR by contributing to security. We will have to move forward one day on this matter. We cannot wait forever,” Haradinaj said. “Getting the necessary votes is a political process and I am certain that it will happen if not through constitutional amendments then certainly through the law. 11 percent of KSF members are from ethnic communities, including Serbs from the north. We cannot say exactly when it will happen, the day or the month, but it will happen. My final position is that no one will lose with the transformation of the KSF into an army,” Haradinaj was quoted as saying.
