EU: The change of format would take away the dialogue’s power (N1, Beta)

Officials in the European Union believe that changing the format of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue would not speed up the settlement of the normalization of the relations of the two sides and would only take the power away; and instead of dealing with the essence, the engagement of the negotiators, at least for some time, would be about who could be involved in the dialogue, reports today N1 quoting Beta agency.

Belgrade based agency Beta reports that the sources of the European Commission in Brussels, who are familiar with the dialogue, underlined that it was agreed at the last Brussels meeting of the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo, Aleksandra Vucic and Hashim Thaci to step up and accelerate efforts to achieve a legally binding comprehensive agreement on redefining Belgrade-Pristina relations, reports N1.

Officials in Brussels say that at the same time it is necessary to apply previously agreed agreements on the Association of Serb Municipalities (ZSO), as well as other issues, including energy.

The sources stress that if only solutions are found to these open issues as soon as possible, the negotiations can progress on the final comprehensive agreement, like the “merged courts”.

Both parties work on this, as well as the EEAS intermediary team, including Angelina Eichhorst, who travels and is in constant contact with the authorities in Belgrade and Pristina, but this is what she was doing and before, and it is not about some “circular diplomacy”, but regular, now little accelerated contacts with negotiators.

EU sources did not rule out the possibility of holding another round of dialogue this month.
