Die Presse: Thousand victims and allegedly not a single criminal in Kosovo (International Radio Serbia)
Vienna daily „Die Presse“ assessed that, even 15 years after conflicts in Kosovo, no crimes have been resolved, witnesses are being intimidated and only ordinary soldiers are convicted. It is difficult to bring the culprits to justice, especially when those culprits are members of the former Kosovo Liberation Army, the daily writes.
From January 1998 to December 2000, more than 13,000 people in Kosovo were murdered or reported missing, which only means that their bodies have not been found yet. Kosovo has been marked with clans and in such a situation it is almost impossible to protect witnesses, the daily concludes.
After the early parliamentary elections, Kosovo is to obtain a new government and it is Ramus Haradinaj again who may become the prime minister. He was acquitted of crimes by the Hague Tribunal, but several witnesses for the prosecution in his case had lost their lives under suspicious circumstances, the daily points out.
