Osmani: We have managed to reconfirm around 20 recognitions of Kosovo (media)
Most news websites cover an interview that Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani had with the Nerv show by Shkelzen Gashi, highlighting her remarks that one of the biggest achievements during her mandate was to reconfirm recognitions of Kosovo by around 20 countries, which Serbia had claimed that had been revoked.
Kallxo notes in its coverage that Osmani said it took a lot of hard work by her office to reconfirm the recognitions. “If a country says that we are withdrawing our recognition, this is very damaging for us. Both in terms of our image, in obstructing new recognitions, but also in terms of membership in international organizations,” she argued. “We have reconfirmed and cemented all recognitions”. Osmani also said that in 2026 Kosovo will get new recognitions.
Several other news websites highlight Osmani’s remarks that it is in Kosovo’s interest for her to be re-elected as President as this would ensure the continuation of her work and strengthening Kosovo’s alliances.
Court overrules decision on Law for Bureau on Confiscation of Wealth (media)
One of the main news items in the last couple of days has been a decision by the Constitutional Court of Kosovo to overrule a decision to adopt the Law on the State Bureau for the Verification and Confiscation of Unjustified Wealth, which was adopted in the Assembly of Kosovo in December 2024. The law was contested in court by MPs from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) who had claimed that the vote on the law was done by avoiding procedural timelines. The law provided that all public officials could be subject to the verification of their wealth if there are doubts about its origin.
The Constitutional Court on Friday also announced its verdict to overrule decisions about the adoption of another 12 laws that were adopted during a Kosovo Assembly session in December 2024. On that marathon session, the Assembly adopted 20 laws, but the vote was held without the presence of opposition MPs and avoiding timelines set by the Regulation of the Assembly.
Hoxhaj on election results: Obliges us to face the government and ourselves (Nacionale)
MP from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) Enver Hoxhaj, in a Facebook video on Sunday, thanked the voters for supporting him and the party in the recent parliamentary elections. He also said that the election results oblige the PDK to face the next government and itself and called for party unity.
The PDK came out second in the December 28 parliamentary elections.
Sources: Abdixhiku to gather party deputy leaders and mayors on Tuesday (Sinjali)
Leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) Lumir Abdixhiku has called a meeting with the party’s deputy leaders and mayors of LDK-run municipalities, the news website reported on Sunday quoting what it called reliable sources. The sources said that all members of the LDK presidency have not been invited to the meeting, because discussions are expected to be heated after the party’s results in the recent parliamentary elections. The same sources said that the meeting is being seen as a phase of defusing tensions between local and central structures.
The news website also notes that “in the last couple of days there have been increasing calls in the LDK and outside it for the resignation of party leader Lumir Abdixhiku as a result of the deep defeat in the elections”.
Mustafa refrains from commenting on the situation in the LDK (media)
Former leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) Isa Mustafa, in an interview with Vox Kosova, did not want to comment on the situation in the LDK and the accountability of the current leadership. He said that these matters will be discussed by the party bodies. “I have refrained this time from getting involves in the debates,” he said when asked if LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku should resign his post.
People in Kosovo targeted by fake traffic fine messages (Prishtina Insight)
During the first week of January 2026, citizens in Kosovo reported receiving messages claiming to be from the “Kosovo Traffic Authorities” containing instructions to pay a traffic fine via attached links and provide personal information. The Kosovo Police issued a warning on January 7, stating that the messages are scams: “Citizens are receiving messages claiming they have received traffic fines. These messages contain fraudulent links and are intended to mislead the public”. The messages claim that recipients have committed a traffic violation and demand payment through a link, warning that, “failure to pay will result in additional legal measures.”
“The Kosovo Police have not sent any such messages and urge citizens not to click on any suspicious links, provide personal or bank card information, or make any payment through these links, and to immediately delete the fraudulent messages,” the police statement also indicated.
Cybersecurity expert Kastriot Fetahaj called the campaign a classic smishing (SMS phishing) attack.
