Osmani meets Prattipati, underlines importance of US military presence (media)

All news websites cover the meeting that Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani had with United States Chargé d’Affaires to Kosovo, Anu Prattipati, with whom she discussed her recent visit to the US and meetings with senior officials of the US administration, recent developments in Kosovo, as well as various issues of common interest.

Osmani expressed gratitude for the invitation conveyed by the US President Donald Trump to Kosovo to be a co-founding member of the Board of Peace, as well as for the guarantees given for peace and stability in the region, reconfirming Kosovo’s commitment to continued engagement and contribution.

Osmani also highlighted the issues discussed at the meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, highlighting the discussions focused on advancing the Kosovo-US strategic partnership, with an emphasis on regional security, diplomacy, economy and defense. She reiterated the importance of the US military presence and that of its allies within NATO as a key factor for stability, and stressed that Kosovo’s membership in NATO remains a strategic objective for long-term peace.

Osmani also highlighted the significant improvements in the field of security and the rule of law in the north of the country, reflected in the latest reports of the Kosovo Police on law and order during 2025. According to this data, a significantly calmer and safer situation is confirmed for all citizens in that part of Kosovo.

Haradinaj: Kurti is sending Kosovo to elections (Dukagjini)

Leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) Ramush Haradinaj said in a debate on TV Dukagjini on Thursday that Kosovo Prime Minister and Vetevendosje leader Albin Kurti is using the election of the President to send Kosovo to new parliamentary elections. “Kurti wants to send us to new elections and he is doing that. I would advise the President [Osmani] not to collect any signatures [for her reelection] because it is too late … Kurti is playing her, because he doesn’t want to pay back even one percent of the support she gave him. He has no political mercy toward anyone, because he wants to have complete control,” Haradinaj argued.

Former Education Minister Bajrami announces candidacy for President (media)

All news websites reported on Thursday that Kosovo academic and former Minister of Education and Public Administration, Arsim Bajrami, announced his candidacy for Kosovo President, with one week remaining before the end of the deadline to elect a new president. In a public letter, Bajrami called on leaders of Albanian political parties in the Assembly to build political unity in order to avoid early parliamentary elections.

EU Office: We support registration of all persons in accordance with Kosovo law (EWB)

“We support the efforts of Kosovo’s Government to ensure that all persons residing in Kosovo are duly registered in accordance with Kosovo law and are provided with Kosovo documents, either as citizens or as persons with a valid residence permit”, the European Union Office in Kosovo states for EWB, commenting on the Law on Foreigners, which is expected to come into force in Kosovo on 15 March.

This step, announced by the Government of Kosovo, is viewed as the “discriminatory legislation, directly threatening more than 10,000 Serbs living and working there” by Serbian officials.

Kosovo’s Law on Foreigners regulates the entry, movement, and residence of foreign nationals, enforcing strict, formal compliance with Kosovo documents for stay, employment, and border crossings. It requires all foreign citizens, including individuals working in institutions not registered within the Kosovo system, to hold valid residency and work documentation.

It is feared that such an obligation would affect Serbian citizens employed in the education or health sectors in northern Kosovo.

“The Law on Foreigners was adopted back in 2013, but its provisions on entry, exit, and residence in Kosovo will soon begin to be enforced strictly. In practice, Serbs without Kosovo documents will be the first to feel the effects”, Kosovo Online reported.

The article noted that in practice, Serbs living in Kosovo who do not hold Kosovo citizenship will have to register with the police and, in administrative terms, enter further procedure in order to obtain a permit for a stay longer than three days, adding that the same procedure will apply to the individuals coming from central Serbia for work or study, provided that they wish to remain in Kosovo for more than three days.

The EU Office in Kosovo states for EWB that “it is the responsibility of the public authorities to create the conditions for such registration to take place in an orderly manner for all”.

“As partners of the Kosovo authorities, we are making our expertise available to assist all those whose registration has yet to be completed. We also welcomed the decision by the Kosovo Government to launch a related information campaign”, the EU Office stresses.

Ex-diplomat: In US, Djuric was presented with agreement to recognize Kosovo (media)

Most news websites reported on Thursday that according to former Serbian diplomat Nebojsa Vujovic, during the visit of Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric to the United States he was presented with a secret and binding agreement to recognize Kosovo’s independence. Vujovic said this was the main reason why Djuric was invited to the US. “Djuric was invited to Washington so that [Secretary of State Marco] Rubio, on behalf of the US administration and President Donald Trump, to present to him the secret and binding agreement to recognize Kosovo’s independence … Every day, step and by step, Serbia is closer to formalizing and officially recognizing Kosovo as an independent state,” Vujovic said.

Djuric reject claims of a “secret agreement” on Kosovo recognition (Kossev)

Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric reacted to claims made by a former Serbian diplomat about a “secret agreement” presented in Washington according to which Serbia would recognize Kosovo’s independence. “If it wasn't sad, it would be funny. I'm amazed that someone who has represented our country at one point in time. I'll just say that when he was chargé d'affaires at the embassy in Washington, there was a bombing of our country and relations were at the lowest possible level. These are complete fabrications," Djuric said during his stay in Washington.

Vucic: It does not cross my mind to accept Kosovo recognition (Kosovo Online)

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday evening that it does not cross his mind to accept any form of recognition of Kosovo. Responding to a journalist’s question in Astana regarding claims that Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Duric had traveled to Washington so that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio could brief him on documents concerning the recognition of Kosovo, Vucic replied that he has no intention whatsoever of accepting any recognition, because Kosovo is Serbia.

“Marko Djuric happened to meet Marco Rubio entirely by chance, as there had been no prior plan for them to meet. He otherwise held excellent talks in the United States. It does not cross my mind to accept any recognition of Kosovo—I am not Nebojsa Vujovic… It does not cross my mind to discuss Kosovo, not with Rubio, nor even with Saint Peter. Kosovo is Serbia, was and will remain so. End of story,” Vucic emphasized, adding that Djuric had productive discussions in Washington and participated in the AIPAC conference, which is important given the significance of Serbia’s relations with the Jewish community and Israel, from which, he noted, Serbia procures many important items.
