A few days after Assembly President Kadri Veseli announced the initiation of establishment of a Special Court for Serbia’s crimes and genocide in Kosovo, the Assembly of Kosovo launched today legal procedures for the establishment of an ad-hoc commission that will take concrete steps to propose legal actions on this issue.

Last week, during the 20th anniversary of crimes in Lubizhda, Hasit, Parliament Speaker Kadri Veseli stated that the international community should support his idea of forming a Special Court which would try crimes and massacres that Serbian paramilitary forces have committed in Kosovo.

“At these very days a great debate is taking place. We have reactions from the Serbian state, denying the Serbian massacres, as much as we have reactions from us and the international community for their happening. But one thing is clear, this is a message especially for the international community and for the European Union: Unless the people who committed crimes in Prekaz, Meje, Obri, Recak, Rezalle and all over Kosovo,  hundreds of massacres, are punished, Serbian authorities will always deny Serbian crimes. This is the mistake of the international community. This is also the responsibility of our institutions. I, as President of the Assembly, expect support, and I believe that the international community will understand the voice of reason to initiate a Special Court for the crimes, namely the Serbian massacres that Serbian army, police and paramilitaries committed during 1998 and 1999. We will not revange, but we will not forget either. We will move forward. There is no power, there is no force that can stop us in our independent and sovereign state,” Veseli said on Friday.

Parliamentary Groups proposed today a member each, to be part of this ad-hoc committee. From LDK: Armend Zemaj, PDK: Mergim Lushtaku, Vetevendosje: Saranda Bogujevci, AAK: Muharrem Nitaj, PSD: Aida Dërguti, Nisma: Bilall Sherifi, 6+: Danush Ademi.
