Three days have left until the application deadline for the mayoral candidates in the four northern municipalities. The Central Election Commission said yesterday no political entity applied for the mayoral elections in Mitrovica North, Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Leposavic municipalities, Radio kontakt plus reported.
Srpska Lista Deputy Chair Igor Simic told the Radio, Srpska Lista in the coming days would submit a list of candidates for all four municipalities in the north, in order to safeguard the freedom and prevent Pristina to appoint an Albanian or a marionette from the Serbian people. He is also convinced Srpska Lista would make a convincing victory in these elections.
Advocacy Center for Democratic Culture (ACDC) Executive Director Dusan Radakovic who monitors the election processes in Kosovo for the last four years thinks that the forthcoming elections in the north would be better organized than previous one.
“We expect that these elections would certainly be better organized than the previous ones. We know some parties would boycott the elections, so we do not expect a high number of candidates. We expect that Srpska Lista would have candidates in all four municipalities, but I would not be surprised if there would be several candidates from the Albanian parties, in Mitrovica certainly one, if not more parties,” Radakovic said.
Radio kontakt plus also interviewed several citizens to hear their opinion about the elections.
“You know what, it is important that we have our man there who will take care of us and whom we can address,” one female citizen said.
“The participation is mandatory. If there are elections then people should turn out and vote for their own representative,” another citizen said.
“I guess the elections are significant. If we stayed where we are, we need to have somebody to lead us,” female citizen said.
