Belgrade count on coordinating position with Moscow on the Kosovo issue, reports B92, quoting Moscow daily Kommersant.
The Russian daily devoted an article to the announced visit of Foreign Minister of Serbia Ivica Dacic to Russia.
The daily says that during today’s talks between Dacic and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, the main topic of the talks will be Kosovo, because the fate of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina should be clarified by the end of April.
“Under these conditions Serbia intends to gain support or at least Moscow’s understanding for its position in this dialogue,” the paper said.
This will, as the daily writes, strengthen Serbia’s position in the final stage of the negotiations.
Kommersant estimated that although Russia did not participate in the negotiations on Kosovo, “even its symbolic support to Belgrade is important, given that the final solution for Kosovo should be approved by the UN Security Council,” B92 portal is quoting.
”While in Belgrade they are constantly thanking Moscow for their support in resolving the Kosovo problem, approaches of the two countries do not match on this issue (Serbian President) Aleksandar Vucic pushes the idea of a demarcation with Pristina as a condition for normalizing relations. In Moscow they consider this will factually mean recognition of Kosovo by Belgrade,” Kommersant writes.
The daily added that in Moscow, they were also critical of the agreement between Serbia and Kosovo, backed by the EU, and suspected that it would turn them into protectorates of NATO.
Kommersant reminded that few days ago Vucic “sharply criticized” Sputnik’s reporting from a protest in Belgrade.
However, ahead of the decisive stage of negotiations, both the President of Serbia and the head of diplomacy have nothing against getting Moscow’s support. Even if it does not help Belgrade to get more suitable solutions for solving, it could be announced to citizens that it was in line with Moscow, concluded Kommersant, reports portal B92.
