Aleksandar Vucic, Serbia’s President, said in Berlin on Tuesday Kosovo could not consolidate itself as a state without Serbia, the Belgrade-based news agency reported.

He said Serbia had been internationally recognised country and a UN member state, so it did not need Kosovo’s recognition.

“You (Kosovo) cannot become anything without Serbia… Their position entirely depends on Belgrade, and Belgrade’s position doesn’t depend entirely on Pristina,” Vucic told reporters after the Berlin Summit of the Western Balkans’ leaders.

Vucic added that during yesterday’s talks when the Pristina delegation was saying “there is no new Republika Srpska (the Serb-dominated semi-autonomous entity in Bosnia) or the Community of Serb Municipalities (in Kosovo) with executive powers,” he asked if they came out with that on their own, or somebody helped them.

He said Serbia behaved responsibly and thoughtfully during the meeting and that its moral and political positions were stronger.

After meeting the President of the European Affairs Committee in the Bundestag Gunther Krichbaum, Vucic said it was difficult to accept any solution in Europe without German and French consent.

He reiterated Belgrade’s stand that the resumption of the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue on normalisation of relations depended on Kosovo’s decision to abolish the 100 percent import tariffs on goods from Serbia and Bosnia introduced in November.

Vucic said it was essential to find a compromise, adding it was not possible without the dialogue.

“They introduced taxes to be able to fight each other in Pristina,” Vucic said, adding he didn’t believe it was “an autonomous decision.”

He said the impression was that there was a conflict between Kosovo’s President Hashim Thaci and Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, but “there is double-dealing as well to get as many concessions and possible.”

Vucic said he believed there was a real disagreement between the two, but not only that, adding he was shocked with what Europe offered to Thaci and Haradinaj during Monday’s meeting. He did not specify.
