EU foreign policy spokesperson Maja Kocijancic has stated that the EU considers there needs to be more responsibility on all sides regarding crimes committed during the Kosovo conflict. This, according to Lajmi, implies that the EU supports the initiative of the Assembly Speaker and leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) Kadri Veseli for setting up an international tribunal to try wartime crimes committed by Serbian forces in Kosovo.

“The EU’s clear position is that there should be responsibility for all crimes committed during the conflicts in former Yugoslavia in the 90s and that meaningful regional cooperation and good neighbourhood are key to encourage trust and overcome the legacy of the past,” Kocijancic said.

Later on, Kocijancic sent another reply clarifying that the EU is not involved in Kosovo Assembly’s latest initiative for setting up a new tribunal. She also said the EU considers the existing legal framework enables investigation and prosecution of all war crimes suspects in Serbia and Kosovo.
